Citizens of the Republic,

Welcome,

So, several people have asked me since starting this channel what is the inspiration behind the logo?

Well, there are several reasons: The past, the present, the future, and the musical Hamilton.

I know, I’m sounding a bit like a Charles Dickens novel – gone rogue on Broadway – but it’s true.

So, let’s begin:

The faded parchment, the quill, the hearkening back to the foundation of our country, when a Declaration of Independence was signed, a Constitution ratified, and a founding President, who in his Farewell Address of 1796, warned against the dangers of political parties – is an invocation to the past.

A reminder of an era – where we placed the needs of our country over blind adherence to party ambition.

Transitioning to the present – we now live in an era of bitter partisanship, strife, and political divisiveness – we need, unifying, wholistic messages – that can inspire, unite, and rally our people.

As you can imagine, that is not an easy task.

For as we objectively look at this modern milieu with its political miasma– we are confronted by two factions – that exist on polar ends of the political extreme.

Those who co-opt the symbols of our land, for their own authoritarian ends – and wrongly brand as traitor – anyone who disagrees with their point of view – and those who view our country as irreparably broken, and damaged beyond repair.

Both positions are extreme – and neither is correct.

Which brings us to the future, and a Broadway musical that reminded me that the story of our country is rich and complex.

We must take the good with the bad. We must acknowledge that while our country, like any other, has its faults and failings – that we have had remarkable successes and great triumphs as well.

In essence, I look at America – not as a country beyond criticism – nor one that is broken beyond repair – I view it as a New Year’s resolution – with each, and every generation striving to realize the promise that this country holds.

So, as we look to the past – let us remind ourselves of those symbols which unite us – and build upon them, with hope for the future – for a castle cannot be built upon quicksand, and a city upon a hill can never be satisfied with its potential.
